Good day at Indian Head

You've all heard of the film "Bad day at Blackrock", well this is a bit different as it's "Good day at Indian Head" which is at Dovestones reservoir,.
Pepe and I set off early to Dovestones which is in Greenfield if you don't know it, we went to pay a visit to Velda's tree which I've mentioned before in an earlier post.
On arrival it was a visit to the buttie wagon there first for a bacon muffin and a drink, the nice lady there always gives me a little doggie bag for Pepe with sausage cut up small, that's nice isn't it!.
As I've said before parking at 60p for 3 hours and £1.30 for all day incase you are feeling energetic and want to go up into the hills rambling.
A look from the carpark and blue buttie wagon.

 A panoramic view!.

Then it was a nice walk in the sunshine up to Velda's Tree, that has a beautiful view over the hills in all directions

Everything all right there, though the leaves are turning yellow as it will in the autumn, as it explains on the notice board at the entrance to the site

No cocking your leg up on this tree Pepe!.

Then on the way back to the car park and another drink, spotted some windsurfer's rigging their sails and went over to see if there was any change in equipment since my younger days (60+) when I used to be fit enough to participate in this wonderful sport. The saying "the mind is willing but the flesh is weak" springs to mind!.

A bit larger and windier than Etherow Country park.

As you can see the reservoir is well down since we haven't had a lot of rain lately, be standpipes and hose pipe bans next hey.

There they are those brave men on their sailing machines.

Oh happy days!.

Then it was off to John's for sunday dinner and a play with his family dogs Jessie and Max.

Tired out at last!

Are we safe now Dad!.

Great Tuesday Out 2013.

On Tuesday I was on my way to the lake with Pepe when my mobile phone rang, as I was also mobile at the time it took sometime to pull over to answer it.
Was surprised to see the caller was my good friend Bob the Builder, and not my lady friend Marjorie who is on holiday in France, also surprised as Bob usually emails me, still to continue, on answering Bob said, It was his and wifey Joyce's wedding anniversary the day before and they were going to our popular watering hole the Hare and Hounds at Werneth Low do you want to come?, not one to pass up a cooked meal I said Yessss!, have you got Pepe with you? though he said , yes but he will be alright in the car.
So it was back on the road to the lake for an hour to see the lads and give Pepe a walk before going to the H&H Pub to meet B & J.

A beautiful sunny day and at the pub it was decided to eat out with Pepe at the table but we had seen a sign on a previous visit saying dogs were welcome, so Bob went and asked, "Yes" they said but only in the bar area, which was good enough for us, so we all went in and found a nice table near the door and sat Pepe down at the table. What a great attraction as most people coming in stopped for a stroke of him and he lapped it up!.

The happy couple +one!, 52 years married, don't get many married that long these days, it was also Joyce's birthday the day before that as well, but you don't ask ladies how old they are do you!, must have been a child bride hey.
Barman obliged by taking the picture with us all together.
Pepe enjoyed the tit-bits on offer and then lay down snuggled up in the chair, I think he would have liked me to bring the chair home as well as it was the type that he could curl round in.
After a lovely meal and dessert we all decided to go back to Etherow as the day was still nice and sunny, you can't miss out on the sunny days at this time of the year can you.
After a walk round the lake and a chat with some of the lads it was quarter to five before I knew it and time for home, what a great day that turned out to be, hope Bob and Joyce thought so too.
.....................................................................
After being married for forty years to the worst cook in the world, a man arrived home to find her in a flood of tears.
"What's the matter darling?" he asked.
"Its a disaster" she wailed. "The cat's eaten your dinner.
"Don't worry" he said comforting her.
"I'll get you a new cat!.

A bit more gardening

Well the plants I bought last week from the garden centre at Uppermill have finally been put in and look a lot better than the ones I took out, here they are.

Winter Pansies which my mate Bob thinks are boring but what else is there that's colourful this time of the year, I'm not a gardener really, I was only allowed to do the heavy lifting and carrying and Velda did the planting and choice of plants, my only choice was that Red Acer in the top picture!.

Whilst at Uppermill a couple of weeks ago with friend Marjorie, walking in the main street which has a lot of pubs on it, was this notice outside one of them, thought it would put a smile on your face, or perhaps you might want to book your hubby in for the day!

.......................................
I am perhaps known at the Model Boat club as the man with the Hat and Dog, always has a camera but very rarely a boat, but this Sunday just passed, I went mad and took two of my boats to the lake for a sail.
It must have been a surprise for some of the newer members to see me sailing for the first time, but I enjoyed sailing my Micro Magic and my Fiesta, both small yacht's. Now I've started back I will perhaps take my bigger one next, what a plonker you must be thinking!, the summer is nearly over and he's started sailing again.

You will have seen the family of Greylag geese I've been following through the Summer, well all is well with them as you can see though the baby has been in the wars when two big black and white ducks set about him/her and tried to drown him/her, so here they are
And as you can see they now have a second minder!, another white one.

Like the film "Last man standing" this is the last Greylag standing this Summer.

As the weather was so good this Sunday the park was full and the cafe was also full with no tables vacant, I was surprised to be invited to a number of tables from friends of Etherow rather than Club members, though I suspect it was Pepe they wanted to sit with them rather than me!.
He is a little charmer though isn't he, can't say the same about me hey!.

Went to the doctor's yesterday for my Flu jab, didn't hurt a bit, where theres no sense theres no feeling they say hey!.
.....................................................................................................

An elderly man went to his doctor and said "Doctor I think I'm going senile, several times lately, I've forgotten to zip up"
"That's not senility" replied the doctor, "senility is when you forget to zip down"

Small world isn't it

It's a small world isn't it, as mentioned in the previous post, I bought three books in a charity shop and yesterday I looked more closely at them thinking I'd read one of them before, but as they would be going back to a charity shop or church bazaar I didn't mind too much. Then I noticed a folded piece of paper in the one I thought I'd read before and upon reading it realised it looked familiar, and it was a receipt for a camera from the law courts in Manchester. You are not allowed to take camera's into the courts as I know when I went to the probate courts almost two years ago now, you hand them in and get a receipt and claim it back on your way out, I'd used mine as a bookmark whilst reading in the queue and got it back yesterday!, yes it was my receipt in this book, with my signature plain to see, how weird is that!.

Back to the normal my sister sent me this one from OZ, there again there is perhaps someone on the bus you know!.

 A new Government initiative:

To help save the economy, the Government
will announce next month that the Immigration
Department will start deporting senior citizens
(instead of illegals) in order to lower Social
Security and N.H.S. costs ('flu jabs, Zimmer frames,
wheelchairs, free prescriptions, bus passes, etc.)

The Government has established that older people
are easier to catch and, in most cases,
will not remember how to get back home.

I started to cry when I thought of you -
maybe I'd never see you again..

Then it dawned on me...
bugger!...

I'll see you on the bus!

Thats all for now folks.

Another week gone by.

Another week gone by, doesn't time fly when you are enjoying yourself, or is it because you are getting older, that seems more like it!.
After dinner with Bob and Joyce on Monday it was a trip to the lake Tuesday to see who was sailing and it was the usual crowd, so won't bore you with more pictures you have already seen.
Friday it was a trip to the beauty parlour, no not for me! I think I'm a bit past that at my age, one of my pet sayings "If it's not broke don't mend it" springs to mind.
No!, it was for my Boy Pepe as I thought he would be better off with a wash and trim after the holidays on the beach, should have gone on Monday but couldn't miss the dinner at the Hare and Hounds with Bob and Joyce, so it was put back to Friday.
Whilst the lad was being dunked, went to John's just down the road to see the dogs

This is a picture taken on another day, but you can almost hear the little one saying, "Play with me Pepe, you're more my size"

Both a bit wary of the old man, what a beautiful colour Max the puppy is hey.

After that it was a visit to the Cafe in Lee's for a nice cooked breakfast and whilst having that my phone rang and I was told Pepe was ready to pick up. quick look round the Charity shops on the way back to the car was rewarded with three good books for £1.50 can't be bad, of course these will be recycled back to some other charity shop or church bazaar afterwards.

And there's the lad all trimmed and washed and the lady said he had been a very good boy.
Then as we were in the area we had a run to Dovestones to see Velda's Tree. The day had brightened up by then and we had a good walk round but not all the way round, as you can see it's a bit too far on a full stomach.

New sign near the car park
Looking towards the Indian Head forrest site

And back to the carpark, 60p for three hours and £1.30 for all day! now that's a bargain isn't it, buttie wagon is only in attendance at weekends and school holidays though I'm told.

A trip up to the garden centre at Uppermill then for some plants to replace the summer ones that are getting past their sell by date.

Yesterday I was digging out all the old plants and ready for the new Winter pansies I'd bought,

As you can see my garden is quite easy maintenance, but at my age still have to be careful not to do too much at once, been to too many incidents on the Ambulance Service with old folks doing too much in the garden at once!.
Well that's it for now, another good week!.
..................................................................................
An elderly man with one arm bumped into an old friend
"Where are you going", asked the friend
"To change a lightbulb"replied the one armed man.
"That will be a bit difficult for you, won't it?"
"Not really" said the one armed man "I kept the receipt!.
Boom Boom
Its the way I tell em!.

A week back off holiday.

Well its been a week since I came back off holiday and all the washing and ironing is back to normal thank goodness.
Tuesday was a run to Buxton and then on to Hartington where Marjorie and I saw these cute little ducks on the pond in the middle of the village.

A bit late in the year, I would have thought but there again even the ducks must be confused with our weather at the moment!.
With my funny sense of humour, I could only visualize in the old days, witches being dunked in the pond!, but there you go it wouldn't be any fun if we were all the same would it!.

Friday it was a bit wet so I took Marjorie to Ashton town centre where she said she hadn't been for years!, so it was a pleasant surprise to see the shopping precinct, the refurbished outdoor market and the newly refurbished indoor market, which is even better after the fire, so at least something good came out of it!.
She was in womanly heaven with all the shops and the prices which are very competitive with every trader trying to keep up with each other.
Then it was off to the Hartshead pub nr Mossley for a nice lunch, the service and the staff there are great and its well worth the trip if you want a nice meal out.

Back at Ashton town square saw this guy doing his artist thing.

Notice on the second picture someone in the shop had placed a yellow shopping bag in the window
"A dog is for life
Not just for Christmas".
Very apt!.
He's probably at Tameside General afterwards with a hernia after carrying all that damp sand!.
.............................
Sunday saw me at the Lake to see the Commodores Challenge which this year was a straight running competition, No steering with your Transmitter only forward and stop!.

Then it was off to Son John's for Sunday dinner and met the new puppy Max again, here is a video I took on the day.

Definitely settling in hey!.
Youngest G/daughter Ruthie just passed her level 5 piano course, that's certainly not from the Teal side of the family, I think I'm not only deaf, but tone deaf as well!.
................................................
Yesterday was another trip to the Hare and Hounds with pal Bob and his good lady Joyce, who meets all her female relatives there once a month, Bob and I decided to join the fun in another room, where our talk was more about modelling and boats rather than the latest fashions!.

Well that's another good week gone by.
......................................................................................

A woman was standing naked in front of the mirror, "Look at me" she said sadly to her husband, "I'm old and fat, cheer me up by paying me a compliment".
The husband said "Your eyesight is still good!.
 ...............
A man was excitedly telling his friend about his new hearing aid, "Its the best on the market" he enthused, "It wasn't cheap but believe me it was worth every penny"
"What kind is it", asked the friend.
Half past three!.

Sounds familiar!.

That's all folk's

We're back!.

Yes we're back off holiday!.
Had a wonderful time in Bonnie Scotland this past week with Son John and family, this also included some of Joanne's family also. It turned out there were 8 of us and one baby and wait for it 6 dogs,  yes that's right six dogs!, there are not many first class apartments that will allow you in with 6 dogs are there.
The trip up to Scotland was very good with a stop over at Carlisle to do a bit of "Eddie Stobart" spotting and a stop now and then for a walkies and lunch for Pepe and myself.
It was all rather uneventful until nearer the destination, I thought I'd better turn on my Sat Nav as it all looks very similar round  there with all the fields full of wheat and corn as far as the eye could see, that was my first mistake!, as a little further down the road Miss Sat Nav said "turn left at the next turn" I did and after a ride through a farmyard scattering hens in every direction finished up in a quarry!.
Sat Nav's who needs them!.
On arrival, eventually!, I was just in time to welcome the other family members who had arrived via the beach to while away the time until we could get the keys to the very nice accommodation.
Pepe likes the living room!.

The view from my bedroom over the fields

And the outside view, that's the swimming pool on the right

The welcoming committee for Joanne's Dad in the other new block.

School next week so there is still class work to catch up with.

The view from the front door to the seating area and across to the childrens play area.

During the week it was eating out in the evenings and as we had 6 dogs it was thought to be better having takeaways, first night of course had to be to the chippy at Anstruther the best in the UK

With frequent calls during the week at the ice cream parlour at St Andrews noted here as the best in the UK

And there we all are enjoying ourselves with some of the dogs.

But wait a minute there's one missing Me!
But that was soon corrected, by my good friend Bob when I got home!.

Some general views of St Andrews for you,

Remember the film "Chariots of fire" thats the beach they were running on and then went into the large hotel in red.

Walkie's

 Dog's enjoying it the most
 Main Street, St Andrews style.
The harbour

Nice stone work hey, better than concrete!.

Save me from this monster Dad!.

On the beach there are these exercise machines for the healthy option instead of the ice cream parlour! or after perhaps.

One for the young at heart, Doctor Doctor I feel sick on this bobbing thing..

Well that's it for today, hope it gives you a feel of what its like to be on holiday with 8 people and 6 dogs!,

By the way John's family took delivery of their new addition to the family the day after we arrived home and here I am with it yesterday at the sunday dinner do.
Meet Max, the chocolate Cockerpoo, 8 weeks old, what a little beauty hey.

My dog's so obedient
He does as he's bid
The park bench said "Wet paint"
And that's what he did!.

"Yes"
"Well for goodness sake don't let him bark, he's just bitten me"
