The other week I said to my Mate Bob the Abel!, I will have to buy a hood for my Nikon P900, and being a ex-design engineer he said why not make your own!!.
So being up for challenge, I bought a paper cup from the info centre at Reddish Vale for 10p.
After a bit of careful paring.
Came up with this.
But they are only waterproof/ stiff for a while so it was on to the next idea.
I like to get value for money so came up with a used pot from my dinner!, and cut that to the size of the paper cup
It fit's.
Then it was another fall of soot!, when I saw a stiffer plastic bottle that had had hand wash in it
So more careful paring on the neck got it down to the right diameter and my modelling band-saw came into its own with a nice smooth cut.
Then it was out with the Black satin finish spray paint, off the camera of course whilst this was being done!.
There you have it a nice smooth push on fit once the lens is extended, Bob said I have to spray the inside as well but just left it like this to show him the writing inside so he could see what its made of!.
There you have it a camera hood for 10p and some household items found round the house.

Had a plaque engraved and put on a bench for my lovely friend Mary, who lost her battle with Cancer!.

When I bought a shoulder strap for my Cameras there was a Safety strap included so only the one, solution make another one for my other camera.
Had the cord, ring and shrink wrap in stock so a few minutes of modelling experience and there you have a colourful strap at no cost.

Have a foot problem (Plantar Fasciitis) and after looking on YouTube for exercises saw a rocker type thing!.
Looked on Amazon and saw one in plastic, thought I can make one of those!.
A piece of 3x2 left over from my kitchen ceiling refurbish cut cross ways.
Glued back to Back.
Another bit glued underneath to make a rocker.
And there you have it, all from bitz and bobz in the work shop.
Might stain it later when doing the staircase banister.
Its worked, I'm cured!.

12.5.2022.
Because I'd bought a camera bag for my new camera from Amazon I now get lots of adverts for Camera stuff.
One advert was for a Hot shoe cover,
.........
Looking at the camera I thought, if I've made model boats for many years surely I could make one of these?.
So it was out with the offcuts bag for some scraps of PlastiCard, plastic weld and the modelling knife and came up with this.

The hot shoe.
My plastic cover fitted.
So it wasn't the price so much as the knowing I'd made it myself!.
Didn't bother painting it as using it would only scrape the paint off, plus it stands out to everyone its home made hey!.
Made some more today, 17.5.23.
