The past weeks bargains 21.2.2015

The past weeks bargains.21.2.2015

The past week Marjorie and I have been to Hyde Little Theatre, where her daughter was playing one of the Ladies in the play below,

Stephanie played the Mother hen type keeping an eye on the other three Ladies, who were on a once in a lifetime holiday to Australia, though I'm not in any way a critic, and it was the first play I've been to, I found the whole experience very good and though it was the first night and cast were all amateurs it was a smooth and enjoyable night, and we finished up in the upstairs bar with the cast afterwards, and as I said before most enjoyable.
..........................................................................
Yesterday we went to Uppermill garden centre and bought a Squirrel, no not a real one, plenty of those in Marjories garden.
No this was a plastic one on the damaged shelf, it had an ear missing, I thought a bit of Milliput will soon solve that problem, asked how much and was told £24.99!!, but there's  another outside with two ears missing for £7.99 said I, after seeing the manager the assistant said you can have it for the lower price!.

Here is the earless squirrel and a tube of Milliput

5 Minutes after getting home, his ear is back and now waiting to harden and then a drop of paint to blend in the odd bits and scratches.

Went to Age UK charity shop in the high street  as well, it helps them and plenty of good bargains there.
Another bargain of the week was a nice plant pot for a £1, and a new M & S shirt £3, can't be bad still in the original packaging!, that pot looks a bit like Moorcroft doesn't it?, sadly not though.

Here it is with a nice plant in, A Mother- in- laws tongue.

Then of course there was a new toy for Pepe, no chance for a better picture, too busy worrying it to death!.

Whilst at Uppermill went to a small Cafe there, (near the car park at the playground), there was some nice 50s, 60's  and 70's music in the background, which was a nice change instead of the racket playing in most Cafes and pubs where the clientele are too old to stand that type of music, a nice change and makes you want to go back there in the future!, we had a little sing along and remembering the artists between us!, you could still remember the words from years ago, todays music you can't remember next week or it it just me in my old age??

When to the lake today (Saturday) but it was a blizzard of sleet so didn't stay too long there!.
...................................................................................

When the nurse told my Mother that she had an eight pound bundle of joy, my mother said thank goodness the laundry's back!.

Some dogs are pointers, mines a nudger, hes too polite to point!.

I promised my lady friend a mink for her birthday on one condition!.
She had to keep its cage clean!.
......................................................................................................
That's all for now folks.

Nice weekend,14-15.2 2015

Nice weekend,14-15.2 2015.

Nice weekend this week, Saturday at the lake, saw this better view of the Cormorants,
Always thought they were all black!.

Looking at these pictures, it would seem it was in a better light and they are more colourful than I at first thought

As you can see it was quite calm, not a ripple on the water, but still quite cold.

Another mutant goose, talk about interbreeding!.

A bit of victorian machinery, on of the sluice gates  from the lake into the river (Etherow)

Also seen on Saturday this lady with a 7 week old chihuahua,

Cute hey, she had it in a camera bag, it hadn't had its jabs yet!,
Must have seemed a big world outside to it!.

Don't know about a hot dog more like a chocolate eclair!.

I was told this was a Chihuahua cross Yorkie.

A greyhound in its usual laid back state, lovely dogs and so placid!.

Bargain of the week this week was at "The Works" bookshop in Oldham, where Marjorie and I went on Friday. Three Omnibus books for a Fiver, six stories in all, can't be bad!, and one of my favourite authors.
We had dinner in the Gallery Grill opposite the indoor market, nice meals and really friendly staff as well!.

Friends, Bob and Joyce had their usual pilgrimage to Barmouth on Saturday and sent me this nice picture, complete with seagull, thats the difference with a good camera (Leica) and as he's told me in the past, its not only the camera its the composition and Bob's certainly go what it takes as you can see.

"Doctor; Doctor, I keep thinking I'm a spoon".
"Sit there and don't stir".

"Doctor; Doctor, I think I may need glasses".
Possibly this is the Greengrocers!.

There are warnings of a new disease found in butter.
Apparently it spreads very easily.

Its the way I tell em!.

Thats all folks.

Monday 9.2.2015.

Monday 9.2.2015.

Still ice about on the lakes.

A little video showing you the difficulties the ducks have walking on the ice.

Whilst walking Pepe round the big lake saw these ducks that stood out with some of them standing out with their rusty looking heads and the pairs were so different from each other.
took these pictures and went back to the Cafe to see if my friend Sylvia could identify them, we both thought they were from the Grebe family. Then Steve the ex warden came along and got out his bird books out of the information centre, which didn't have anything like them !.
Met friends Bob and Joyce arriving as I was leaving and set him the challenge to name these birds.
Bob didn't let us down and came up with the name for them. No wonder they weren't on my British birds APP on my  phone, they are Common Merganser's

As you will see from the link the Black and White ones are Males and the rusty headed ones are Females.

Perhaps we might see something like this picture I found on the net come the spring, if they haven't gone back to their home land.

They did look like Grebes from their outlines though, still you learn something new every day, if you want too that is!.
I was quite thrilled at my spotting them, sad isn't it!.
...............................................................................

Did you hear of the Hyena that swallowed an Oxo cube;
He made a laughing stock of himself.

What happened to the two bed bugs who fell in love.
They got married in the Spring.

That's all folks!.

A bit further round there is a Badger sett, and it looks like they are having a bedding change.
