Last few days

Over the last few days I've made a bit of progress on the Wheelhouse mast as seen,
I've been taking note of the excellent review of the "Our Lass 2"  by Terry Small in the Model Boat magazine, Scale Special Edition 2010 which I was able to acquire from a club member before starting the build.

I've got this far and still undecided whether to go down the road Terry took, ie  spray up the platforms and fix them afterwards or fix them now and mask up and spray later?
Yesterday though cool in the early morning Pepe and I had a trip to the lake, though there were no sailors  sailing we had a good walk round both lakes and a bit of lunch in the Cafe, It was quite warm sat on the veranda in the sun!.
A few pix's from on the day

More on the OL2

This week I've done a bit more on the OL2 ie
Namely the construction of the wheelhouse sides
Sides built on the wheelhouse floor, have to make sure it doesn't get stuck to the deck, tacked first and then done properly off the deck!.

Front a bit tricky, and as you will see the top insert is a bit too big, but after a bit of a trim, sits nicely into place

And here is the finished article.

Then it was the exhaust and vent trucking to add, nearly missed the instruction, to add the small box on top of the main roof!!. not at this stage!.

Then it was on to the main roof.
It was at this stage I was not sure what the plans were saying so on Sunday took the pieces and instructions to John's house as he is a time served Draughtsman and he had a look and said my thoughts were correct. It was still a job for two pair of hands though, so I held the parts in position whilst he ran some Polyweld round the joints. Much easier with two people, as all the parts are overlapping and not very easy to tape up with the curved front and all.

Then it was home to add the nav light boxes.

And here is the nearly finished wheelhouse, and you can just see the top of the exhaust vent at the back of the roof where it should be!.
Well that's all folk's, perhaps not in the sequence in the instruction manual, but it's where the mood takes me on the day, but its getting there.

Well that's it for now.

Past week

The past week been out and about again!
At the beginning of the week helped John at work, not work for me really just company!
Then on Wednesday had a trip to Widnes, The Stobart Port area, it is massive and you enter through a railway arch and there it is before you, to the left is Tesco's distribution depot and to the right is the Stobart container depot. the trucks are going in and out all day long and after a couple of hours had 60 Spots!
Just stand on this roundabout and spot them coming in and out

What more can you say? this is May Lou on the way out from Tesco's depot.

Thursday was the 1st anniversary of Velda's passing away and John said why not go to the lake and sail Mum's favourite boat the "Wyeforce" Tug, so we did and we sailed for about half and hour, John with his new Maggie "M" and me with "Wyeforce", then all of a sudden the "Wyeforce" stopped and that was it, nothing working, so it was out with the rescue boat.
Never happened before!, and it will be something simple I'm sure, or someone up there telling me something hey, but what a coincidence!.
Then my mate Bob stepped in with his Photoshop wizardry!!
Scary hey!
I don't know about not feeding the ducks, but these sharks are doing well on the bread!.
Give way to Rowers? Thanks Bob!!

Friday it was more modelling with more work on the wheelhouse.

More next time, don't want to get you too excited all at once do we?.

Past week

Over the past week as seen Pepe and I go to Rossendale with John to help out there and yesterday we had another trip to Appleton Thorn, (Stobart depot) to do a bit more spotting, trouble is out of 62 Spots I'd already got quite a few of them, so finished up with 31 additions, so all in all not a bad trip, the snacks were as good as usual as well, so saves me having to do it myself!.
There were a number of other spotters there, it's not often I've seen others, perhaps the others are all working in the week!.
Spotted these two unusual trucks as well
Sammy Shammy.

Bettina
On the home front got down to finishing off two of the deck hatches for OL2
Hopper hatch, just noticed it needs a handle!.

Loading hatch

Both with instructions on how to make them, nice and clear for dummy's like me!.

Then I started to cut out and clean up the parts for the wheelhouse.
All these parts are CNC cut nearly though and just need a light cut and teasing out and then the job of cleaning up the window openings, the smaller sections are to go in the inside to give the effect of rebated window frames, so you have to be careful the parts go in the right places!.
Will do a bit more on them later to-day.

Last couple of days.

The last couple of days has seen Pepe and I moving around a bit.
On Wednesday we went to Appleton Thorn, (Warrington) one of the "Eddie Stobart" depots to do a bit of spotting.
We has a good couple of hours there and a nice lunch,
How's that for a nice sandwich and with a cup of coffee, the total cost £1.60, can't be bad hey
And here is the picnic area, if it's fine enough to sit out!
Got a good number of "Spot's" and met a couple from Rugby there on their way to Scotland for their holidays, stopped off to get some "Spots" on the way, and then calling at the main depot at Carlisle as well.
If you don't know all the Stobart trucks have girls names, except "Valentino" after the motorcycle rider Valentino Rossi.
Ann Cynthia

Kim Rachael

Jorja Paige
Just a few Spot's from the day, and as you can see the weather nice for a change.

Yesterday I fillered and rubbed down the deck of the model OL2
And as you can see the inspectors are all over it checking for imperfections, but anything they find will be sorted out using filler/primer when the filler and sanding is finished.

I then took Pepe to the lake and we met Bob and his two ladies there, been keeping out of their way for a while with the cough and cold I've had.
What did you say "Sheegar" found safe and well at Etherow, look at those teeth, shame Pepe didn't show his!.
Then Bob did a bit of photo magic and added his picture and one of mine together to produce this,
Nice one Bob!.

Well that's enough drivel for one day, see you soon folks.

A bit more done!

Yesterday after feeling a bit better with the cold and cough I decided that it was time to do a bit more on the boat!.
So I've fixed the motor mount down so that is done at last!.
Fitted a shim under the aluminium  mount as an extra bit of quick adjustment, but the shaft seems to be in line and runs well.
Then it was decision time, do I stick the deck down using the usual smelly stuff with the cough still lingering, then thought what the hell, so donned a mask and put the boat on a stand that I could get all the way round for the taping up.
And there you have it, finally got the deck on, now just wants the edges rubbing down and a bit of filler to cover any defects on the edges.
To-day (with a mask on) will do the rubbing down, so I can then get on with some more upper deck jobs.
For those of you that didn't see the hull when I got it out of the box here is an aaahh picture,
