Cool trip out

The cool (damp) trip out relates to the weather and not as in Cool that my grandchildren would say.
Though it is getting cool and damp out, it is a great time of the year to see nature closing down as seen by these colourful pictures taken at Debdale park whilst walking Pepe round.

This one near to the wardens offices

And this one at the two old disused lodges on Hyde Road.
Kids activity area.

As a bit of a project the past week found these dolphins at the back of the garage, put there and forgotten, so a bit of a mess. so it was out with the sandpaper and a good rub down and seemed no worse for wear after years in the open, resin you see!.
Were brown wood effect originally

Now painted with acrylic paints and sprayed with clear lacquer, so the finished result doesn't look too bad hey, they are going on the top of my lady friend Marjorie's porch!.

Marjorie is a keen gardener and has a beautiful garden at the front of her flat, but I don't think she would like the visitor to her garden my Sister in OZ had the other day.
I'm told it is a Blue Tongued Lizard, judging by the size of the flags it's on, it looks quite big.
So the slugs and snails that are about here at the moment with all this wet weather don't seem too bad now do they.

Yesterday though it was cool and damp it was off to Etherow country park with Marjorie, who is a carer this week for a friends 3 month's old puppy Alfie, who is a Border Terrier, very cute and quite intelligent for his age.
Had a bite of lunch and a chat with some of the boat club members at the nice Cafe ( under the balcony veranda so you are alright with dogs there), it cleared up enough for a walk round the lake with Alfie who seemed to enjoy all the new smells and would have loved to chase all the ducks I'm sure.

It was a bit mushy underfoot but the rain stayed off until we got back to the cafe for another hot drink to warm us up.
On the way round my friend asked what type of tree was the one with Bronze bark on, I'd asked the wardens years ago but had forgotten, but my friend Bob checked out on the internet this afternoon and found it was a Tibetan Cherry Tree!.
This isn't the one from Etherow but gives you an idea what we are talking about, just get's better every year.

On the way home we called to do a bit of shopping and just got home in time for another downpour, so it was a nice day in spite of the weather!

By the way met Amy Norah on Sunday going to Sunday dinner, "No" not another woman this one.

An elderly man went to his doctor and said "Doctor I think I'm getting senile. Several times lately, I have forgotten to zip up".
"That's not senility" replied the doctor, Senility is when you forget to zip down".

A middle-aged couple were entertaining an old friend they hadn't seen for years.
"Shortly after we were married" said the husband recapping their life story, "we were blessed with a lovely chubby creature with cute bow legs and no teeth".
"Oh how wonderful! exclaimed the friend "you had a baby!.
"No" said the husband, the wife's mother came to live with us!.

Its the way I tell em.!.
Thats all folks

Out and about October 2013

Hi there everyone, not been blogging much of late and the first thing that happens is my Sister in Oz starts worrying that things are not right here.
But I can say that I'm fine and just had a bit of writers block.
My lady friend is back off her holidays and we have been out and about last week and this, replenishing her larder and visiting the garden centres for plants to replace the summer ones past their best and those that didn't survive her holiday, though they didn't do too badly in that respect.
The garden centres as you can imagine are all geared up for Christmas at the moment, we had a visit to Daisy Nook Garden centre last week and had a nice soup and a sandwich there and sat at a table there was Roy Barraclough from the Les Dawson show, can just see them now has the two gossiping women, don't see shows like that much these days do you!.
Found out next day that Roy owns the garden centre and probably has his dinner there most days, can't blame him though as the food is lovely and the centre is full of christmas stuff at the moment.
Yesterday it was a trip to Buxton and though it was raining when we got there, a look round the indoor precinct and it had cleared up when we came out.

Plenty of shops to look round, though like most places charity shops seem to be taking over, their stock and staff are free after all aren't they, but some good bargains in them if you look round and it's all to a good cause, whatever your cause is!.
Some of the Pound shops seem to be flaunting the trade descriptions at the moment and you have to check that the items are all indeed a pound, yesterday spotted some items £3.50, might still be cheaper than other main street shops but a bit embarrassing when you get to pay and its not what you thought it was going to be!.

Well that's it for now, will get back to normal output soon.

An elderly man returned from the doctors looking worried.
"What's the matter" said his wife.
"The consultant said I have to take one of these tablets everyday for the rest of my life" the husband replied.
"That's not too bad she said" trying to cheer him up.
"It is" he said "He only gave me seven"!.
........................................................
"Dad all the kids at school hit me and call me Pansy"
"Thats alright Son" said the father, "next time they do that, whack them over the head with your handbag"

Thats all folks!.

Hybrid Goose and others.

First off you must have noticed the nice Autumn heading, courtesy of John the other moderator
......
Sunday saw Pepe and I at the lake and though it was the Fiesta racing day we had a walk round and chat to some of the sailors taking part, after all some need a handicap! like me talking to them to give the others a chance to catch up!.

Whilst walking Pepe round we happened on this strange looking goose on the water!.
Hybrid goose
Normally look like this

The normal Greylag geese look like this

The way these two are keeping together I think the hybrid one is theirs, the coloured one is a Chinese Swan goose and it's mated with the white one!.
I had a sail of my coaster after the racing, but came away with aching shoulders with the weight of it, makes me wonder if it's not time to sell my Motorised boats and stick to the lighter yachts in future?.
.......
On Monday it was off to the Hare and Hounds at Werneth Low with good friends Bob and Joyce, Joyce to her Loose Women group ( all female relatives) and Bob and I into another room to discuss more important things such as the veneering on his present project "Ellie"

Click here to see progress on this model.

Lots of followers, so will take you some time, but well worth it if you are into model boats.

On Tuesday it was off to Ashton shopping so couldn't take Pepe so that was two days on the run he had been left on his own in the mornings, but I always  manage to bring him a doggie bag back with a few bits of sausage or something so he knows it will be worth the wait.
Perhaps I should lay off the sausage for a while he's getting too long!.

Art work by Bob the Shot!.

Well that's all for now folks!.

A couple went out to dinner to celebrate their thirtieth wedding anniversary. On the way home the wife noticed a tear in her husband's eye and wondered if he was getting sentimental about the happy occasion.
"No" he said, " I was thinking back to before we got married".
Your father threatened me with a shotgun and said he'd have me thrown in jail for thirty years if I didn't married you. Well, tomorrow I would have been a free man!.
It's the way I tell em!
