Saturday, 18.10.2025.

Saturday, my two friends went off to Fleetwood, so it was up to me to show the Dog Walkers Gang were still in attendance. at the Bridge View café.

The Bridge the café is named after.

I nearly gave it a miss but when I got there was so glad I'd made the effort as the Steam Punk crowd we had seen there in the past were there again to celebrate Halloween!.

There were plenty of photographers there with their big cameras, but I only had my Nikon A1000 which I always carry with me, but I think it does a very nice job!.

Inside the café, it was packed out!, but they had saved a place for me with a friend, being a regular customer!.

That a motley crowd you might think but they are very nice to speak to and were quite glad to have their photos taken.

They even had their own band and singers

When me and the gang were there this Thursday, we booked for our Christmas Dinner, you have to be early there!, we had it there last year and the food was fantastic and kept coming and coming and in the end we all bought home doggie bags (for us, none of us have dogs any more) plenty of drinks too.

Here is the menu's, looks dear but have you checked out pub menu's?.

On the way to the Café I'd stopped at Clarkes Shoe shop and bought another pair of shoes that they had advertised at 50% off so got these at £42!, they were still at the full price on the shoes in the shop, but I showed her the advert on my phone and she checked on the price thing round her neck and confirmed it, you have to be as quick as them don't you.

My friend said at the last count she had 60 pairs of shoes, I'm still only at 5 pairs at the moment.

The staff at the Clarkes shop at Crown Point North shopping mall are very nice too!.

Got a letter in the post when I got home to tell me my Winter Fuel Payment will be sent to my bank in November.
So, beware the Scammers getting in touch with you asking for your bank details to sent you your money!, if you are due it, it will be sent your bank automatically!.

Saturday, 24.6.23.

Saturday I went over to McDonalds for breakfast and then on to Gorton Ressers before the crowds or so I thought, but the weather had brought everyone out to the park, luckily I was going to the ressers to see if there was any birds.

Plenty of Canadian geese with their goslings.

These Coot babies still being fed by their parents

At least there was one trying on its own, as you can see there is one with it's feet in the air,

The young Great crested Grebes are doing well and getting bigger now.

It was nice to see the Dragon boats out, I'd only seen them parked up in the yard for years, so it was a nice change to see them on the water and the ladies enjoying themselves.

Can just see you in one of those Joanne!

The men setting off, but didn't have a full crew, perhaps not as adventurous as the ladies!.

Guy at the front beats the drum for the rhythm of the paddles.

Then it was off home to get changed to go to a BBQ at my Son's which was a birthday party for my Great Grandson Henry!, who was down from Edinburgh for the occasion.

Proud mum and dad.
 lighting the candles.

The cake was made by his mum and tasted as good as it looked.
This is Henry's great-grand-mother from the midlands, also my daughter-in -law who with son put on a wonder full spread for all this crowd from the Midlands and Gtr Manchester
BBQ and also after's and sweets for the kids!.

Some of Henry's nephews and nieces

So a good time was enjoyed by all and plenty of catch up for everyone.
Even the journey home for me was in nice sunshine, not like last Sunday when it was like driving down a river on the motorway in a cloud burst!.
So a really good day!.

Saturday, New Bike 23.10.21.

We went to Pear Mill Café on Saturday for lunch with friends!.

When we got home I thought I would ring Harry Hall Cycles after viewing them on-line and asked if they had a M6R Brompton bike in stock, as they seemed to be scarce in most places online.

The chap there said they didn't have a M6R but did have a H6R (High,6 gears,Rack) in British Racing Green which I thought at my tender age would probably be better anyway!, "have you got a Broughton Bag for Pepe?" Yes one of those as well!.

So leaving Pepe at home I whipped down to Manchester City centre which being Saturday was packed out with shoppers and visitors and not a mask in sight!.

The cycle chap had bike and bag ready which was a good thing as I'd put a £2 coin into the meter outside and it gave me a ticket for 37 minutes!, shows you how long it's been since I was last there.

The saddle was like a razor blade and asked if they still did an exchange for a Brook's saddle which they still did, I was worried about my parking ticket and he said we will have you out of here before that runs out!, must have been used to it.

So saddle changed, a front and rear LED lights and a better air pump, bag and helmet and a help getting the lot packed into the car and I was on my way home, away from those terrible packed unmasked crowds.

But I must say credit where credit is due the chaps at Harry Hall Cycles are some of the nicest shop people I've met in a long time, well since I was there before about three years ago actually!.

I was there and back home within the hour!, much to Pepe's delight.

Parked in the front room, which isn't used much.

Pepe's bag fits on the front of the bike and as we have had one before he will be used to it.

Got a nice helmet that doesn't obstruct my hearing aids.

Not very good at taking Selfies! as you can tell.

Unfolded, those yellow things are the trouser clips

Stiff when stretched out and curl up when you bend them, bit different from the old cycle clips aren't they.

My good friend Bob had offered to give me his bike that he no longer uses but after thanking him said I wanted a Brompton as they are a Style Icon same as the VW Camper!.

Thanks again Bob!.

I won't be doing the Tour of Britain!, only trips round the local park and that only in the good weather.

Still remember the days when I used to cycle from home, Moss Side at the time to Newton Heath come hale, rain or shine and never give it a thought, but that was a lot of years ago.

Also during our early married life Velda and I had a tandem that we used to go to North Wales on a regular basic at weekends, but as said before that was a lot of years ago and a lot of water under the bridge since then, still happy memories, perhaps this bike is a way to recapture some of those happy memories hey!.

Down the Vale, Saturday,13.4.2019.

Going back to my previous post about installing a Niger feeder in the Community garden down the Vale I'm pleased to say it was a roaring success

.
This morning whilst sat in the Community Garden I was pleasantly surprised to see not one but Six Goldfinches, all queuing up to get on the feeder.

Form an orderly queue please.

Room for one more now.

Beautiful colours.

For the purist's out there, there is even a small shrub behind the table so they can get a shot without the feeder showing!

"This is better than the back of Daryll's workshop!"

So another first for me this week!.

Blue tit.

Is this a juvenile thrush Bob?.

Another couple of Robin's, but they are very nice aren't they.
