Safe option , 12.2.2020.

Decided on the safe option today and stayed near to home after the hail and sleet of the last few days.
After a bit of housework and washing decided to have lunch at Mcdonald's and then a walk round the park to see if I could see the tree creeper I missed the other day when I didn't have my camera, always the way isn't it!.
The only birds we saw were the male Blackbirds, perhaps it's more like I need to visit Specsavers for another eye test, perhaps after I get my Hearing Aids sorted.

The park was a bit of a mistake really as we went round the old golf course and of course at the bottom of the path, it was about 6 inches deep in flood water so had to divert on to the grass but that was water logged as well so ended up with muggy shoes, Pepe got carried of course as I didn't fancy washing him when we got home.
Don't think Storm Ciara was all to blame for this tree, as you can see it was rotten most of the way though so the storm did a bit of good there and blew this one down when most people were safe at home!.

This one seems to have had a very shallow root system, that's Hyde road in the background which is a bit of a nightmare at the moment with the road widening near to Reddish Lane.

This is the state of the widening at the moment with only one lane in each direction, there again that's what it's all in aid of.
This was taken at 1300hrs so you can imagine what it must be like between 1600hrs and 1800 hrs, nightmare coming out of Manchester.
The widening is from Far lane to Reddish Lane and would you believe its scheduled to take 12 months, mind you when you see the speed some of the men walk I'll  be surprised if its finished then.

They have made a large area for the machinery on what used to be the old coal yard, when the old style coal trucks used to hand load their sacks of coal from the the coal wagons that used the old bridge. Taken photo from McDonalds car park.
You can just make out your hotel behind the orange portacabins Barbara!.

Hopefully will be able to get a photograph of the bridge being lifted out on the Saturday 22-23 February, from this position on the day or night.
So if you are in the area on that date the main road will be closed!.

Why is lemon juice mostly artificial ingredient, but dish washing liquid  contains real lemon?.

Why do we buy hot dogs in packs of ten and buns in pack of eight?.

Why do we wait until a pig is dead to cure it?.

Has spring arrived!, March 2017.

The lake at Etherow was quite full today with the yachtsmen from the Model Boat Club, there were a few fishermen  out too!, why they park in the front row I don't know and then disappear for the rest of the day. The folk that only come to sit in their cars, have a buttie and perhaps are not able to walk far don't get the chance to park and watch the view at the front, some people are so inconsiderate aren't they!.
The Great Wall just outside the park it seems is not being taken down, but only being pointed!. Doesn't look very good at the moment, still its early days and perhaps the chaps will get better as they progress.

On the way home stopped off at Aldi and got a big bag of stuff for next to nowt!, no wonder the bigger supermarkets aren't doing very well!.
Then it was a call at McDonalds for lunch and felt a bit guilty afterwards, so it as out with Pepe and off for another walk round Debdale Park to walk some of our dinner off.
Hence the Question "Has Spring arrived".
Crocus on the banking looking towards Hyde Road

More Crocus in the park!.

Beautiful sunny day, but still need the big coat on, or is that my age showing though I wonder!.

Been going to the cinema quite a bit lately, seen some good films too ie
The Great Wall,
Patriots Day,
 Hidden Figures
To name a few,
Like it at Cineworld as the time early in the day suits us, the sound is great and afterwards my mate Dave and I go to McDonalds for lunch, then I do a bit of shopping on the way home, good day.
Must get an Unlimited ticket though, which makes it a lot cheaper if you are going regularly, gives you money off as well at the restaurants locally.

Have you read any of Matthew Reilly's books?, an Australian writer of Action adventure books, bags of action from page one!.
I'm an avid reader and he is one of my favourite authors, another is Lee Child with his Jack Reacher character, though not too keen on his choice of film star to portrait him though, Tom Cruise??,  still if you buy the film rights you can have who you want can't you, even yourself!, he did a good job though, still not the size of Reacher in the books!.

"Shut up and get back in the barrel"

That's it for today Folks.

Out and about in February 2014.

Well the weather doesn't get much better does it, still in this part of the country mustn't complain too much, I feel heartily sorry for the people in the South, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better for them, one minute the powers that be saying they have no money and after Prince Charles and PM Cameron going there they have found some!. But it seems too little too late, will you be voting them in again!!.
Perhaps we should be spending less on guided missiles at something like a million pounds each and spending more on our own country hey.

Well now that's off my chest, went to the local community meeting on Thursday and it was all about the widening of Hyde Road in Gorton, (East Manchester if you are not local) It's going to start in October this year and will take 11 months to complete, this will include taking down the old railway bridge and replacing with a new pedestrian one.

Here is the plan that was posted up on the night, the widening will be from Chapman Street to Wall Way nr McDonalds. This part of the road is a nightmare in the evening rush hour, you can imagine what it will be like when this work starts!, still its needed and  has to be done and there is no way round it is there.
It will no doubt give me a chance to try for some good pictures when the old and new bridges are being done.
On the home front, with my new found interest with plants, (indoor at the moment in this weather) I bought a nice wide, flat dish and some small cactus the other day and here is the result,

Think the dish gives it that Desert look doesn't it, I'm sure you've seen those pictures on the TV with the lizards hopping from one leg to the other because the grounds too hot!, could do with some of that here hey.

Thought this coaster in the garden centre was quite apt for me as well.

I mentioned in the previous post that I was having a picture framed at the Millyard Gallery in Uppermill, didn't want to mention it then as it was for my friend Marjorie and didn't know if she would read about it before I gave it to her, but here it is now,

One of my previous hobbies, Cross Stitch!, which I've started up again and you can do it in front of the fire which is a bonus this weather.
I have always been very pleased with the Millyard Gallery framing and they didn't let me down this time either.
Marjorie loved it I'm pleased to say!.
