Bank Holiday weekend, 29th. 5. 23.

This Bank holiday weekend, I stayed in on the Saturday as the parks would be full of workers having their well earned break, and for a change it wasn't raining!.

Sunday went early to McDonalds and then over to the ressers to see how the great Crested Grebes were getting on and there they were with the babies riding on mum's back!.

Dad helping with the feeding.

Mum flapped her wings and the three babies all fell off.

So the babies all shot over to dad and climbed on to his back.

As soon as mum had stretched her wings and had a dive for some food, the kids were back to her.

What's for dinner dad?.

There was this Cormorant there too, but it didn't stay long.

The goslings are all doing well and into a Creche with all the adults looking out for them.

Whilst having my McDonalds, noticed that tree sparrow had a nest under the flashing on the sailing club roof, I'd noticed it last year as well, so must be a regular nest for them.

Back home my Clematis are coming into bloom.

This is the first bloom called "Josephine" and in it's fifth year, certainly had my monies worth with this one.

This one "TAIGA" the flowers aren't as big, but still a nice colour.

My Goldfinches are feeding well, but no sign of any babies yet, though there are plenty of house sparrow and starling babies around.

So that's the month of May done with, hopefully June will be as nice!.

Tuesday at Reddish Vale, 23.5.23.

First to see at the Vale was the fact that the front of the info centre had had some more detail done on the paintings.

The back had also been started.

I'd hear that the swan's had had their babies and wasn't disappointed as the female brought them over to show them off.
Proud mum.

 Three little beauties

A lot of pictures I know, but they are cute aren't they.

Loves these monkey nuts.

Reddish Everglades!.
can you see the Terror-pins and Heron in the background?.

With a bit of zoom, there they are

Another Heron on the hunt.

Some baby mallards.

Mandarin duck taking it easy.

More terror-pins on the lower mill pond.

Watch your legs son, that terror-pin will have one off.

Baby Coots on Sunnyside pond.

This morning (Wednesday)24.5.23 it was over to the ressers to see how the Great crested Grebes were doing with their eggs I'd seen yesterday.
To my surprise there was Mum sat on her nest and suddenly there was movement under her and out popped a baby and another on her back!.
They had only been eggs yesterday!

So I was really made up, the only trouble was the leaves had grown too, so I bit of a job getting these pictures.
Dad still henpecked or should that be Grebe-pecked?.

So then it was off to Reddish Vale to see how the three cygnets were doing and glad to report they are all doing well.

There was some further art work done on the info centre, not finished yet.

Heron on the top mill pond.

Plenty of Terrapins out in the sunshine, first time I've had my coat off this year!.

Mandarin Duck on the top mill pond, how do you get so many colours on one bird!.

First for me today is this Buzzard over the railway viaduct.

Then it was off to the info centre to have a chat with my two lady friends, I'd seen round the ponds.
My Wax plant is doing well again this year, first bud out and plenty more on the way, was a bargain about 5 years ago, at £5 with the owl pot and growing in gravel.

So it's been a nice couple of days sunny and warm with plenty of friends to chat too.

The trouble with doing nothing, is you never know when you've finished!.
