Weekend, 30-31.5.2020.

Over the weekend we are staying safe and in our own garden, too many people around at weekend for us.
I have noticed that the families that are going out, because they are close to each other at home, don't seem to bother with social distancing whilst outside which is a bit disconcerting.
Anyway back to the good things, since my last post we seem to have had more babies that ever, Starlings, sparrows and flocks of Goldfinches!.
This is the goldfinch parent feeding one of the babies.

More, more, Wait Oliver!.

Anything to shut you up.

This one isn't waiting for the parents to feed it, helping its self.

Starling parents.

A whole new meaning to Mother & Child.

Pair of young starlings

Unfortunately down at Reddish Vale, even though the Cob is very aggressive it hasn't stopped the Six Cygnets being reduced to FOUR!, but sadly that's nature for you.

Have any of you been watching Spring watch this past week, it's amazing the pictures and information on there, and it's on in the coming week as well, BBC2 at 8-00pm or 2000hrs if you prefer.

Did you know there is a famous picture of Mary,Jesus and a goldfinch?.
Whats the significance you may ask, look it up on Google!.

My NHS Tribute in the garden, East Fence, changes colours in the sunshine.

When I was born the doctor came out to the waiting room and said to my father, "I'm very sorry, We did all we could, but he pulled though".
Its the way I tell em!.

Easier lock down, 28.5.2020.

Not another post so soon.

Yes another post this week, but as soon as the lock down is lifted it will be back to the once a week if I'm lucky that is.
This morning went on my weekly shop down to the local Tesco in Gorton, was lucky that there wasn't a long queue, but they were letting in people in another entrance which I think was supposed to be for Carer workers and NHS workers which is fine, but some of the people going in there makes one wonder where some of them were working from, perhaps the local sewerage workers!.
Still on to better things, got all my shopping list including my favourite, Sweet & Sour chicken and rice frozen dinners, This make only sold at Tesco very good value at £1.10 and a real plate full!.
I always seem to get to the till and realize I've gone a bit over the top in case I can't get back there soon and I've only got a small freezer!.
When I got home got my usual welcome from my good companion Pepe, think it was the shopping bags he was more interested in really though.
After dinner settled down in front of the living room window with the camera as there was plenty of activity at the feeding station with plenty of babies around doing that classic wing fluttering wanting their mothers to feed them.
These are the goldfinches with the yellow wing patches.

These pix's all taken though the living room window, so not that clear.

Where's mum gone?.

These are young sparrows.

Open wide.

What a little beauty hey.

So will have to wash the window tomorrow to get cleared pictures!.

Why do we leave our cars worth thousands of pound on the street and fill our garages with Junk!!

Two cannibals were having dinner and one said to the other "Your wive makes a great stew"
"Yes, said the other "but I'm going to miss her"

Two cannibals are eating a clown and one says to the other, "Does this taste funny to you"

There you go for another post, you've probably had enough corn for one day.

Babies, babies everywhere. 27.5.2020.

Had a few hours down Reddish vale today and there were Babies everywhere.

Got myself some of these snoods, six in a pack with different colours and patterns, from good old Amazon.

Had six Cygnets but today there were only five!.

Doing a bit of diving training.

This baby seems to have got the hang of it but not quite a 10 yet.

This is the only Coot baby to survive in her brood.

The Squirrels seem to enjoy the apples I take.

Some of the terrapins were out today sunning themselves.

On arriving home found the fat ball feeders all empty and no wonder the Sparrows and Starlings are doing very well with their babies!.
Here are young Starlings,Sparrows and Goldfinches tucking in to the feeders.

The baby sparrow nearly as big as the adult goldfinch.
.

Young sparrow.

Adult Goldfinch.

Got a lot of babies to feed.

What you looking it!.

And to my surprise the baby Goldfinches had turned up today

As you can see they have the yellow on their wings, so you can't mistake them for baby sparrows, but not got their red faces yet, "they haven't been embarrassed yet" did you say, No they don't get their lovely red face until their first moult!.

Not feeding themselves yet, so mum and dad being kept busy.

Stay Safe.

Eased Lock Down, 21.5.2020.

Yesterday , 20.5.2020, we went to Oldham for Pepe's wash and trim which was a god send as he had missed the last one 6 weeks ago with the groomer closed with the government restrictions.
So whilst he was being pampered I was down at the Cafe I usually go to where it was open but one had to queue outside and the girls came out to get your order and you queued on the side and they brought it out to you, So it was two meat and potato pies, two sausage rolls, half a dozen baps and a bacon sarnie!, and very nice too all of it, Not all at once mind you!.
On his steps I knocked up for him.

This hot weather Pepe, alternates between the furry blanket and the blue cool blanket all night long on his own chair.

Today I went to Home Bargains at the Snipe, for essential shopping, Bird Food and Fat Balls!, essential for my garden birds!, got some shopping for myself of course.
Well organised there as well, so well done Home Bargains!.
Spent the rest of the day in the garden with my camera at the ready.

"Pepe's dad is late with the seed today Ethel"

Plenty of these Wood Pigeons about.

The starlings have had babies and are busy feeding them, suppose they will be glad when they can feed themselves.

Get this down your neck.

Baby Starling squawking for his supper.

And another.

Making good use of the water dish for drinking and bathing.

Taken from indoors, must clean the windows!, and refill the water dish.

Goldfinches haven't shown any babies yet, perhaps they've not fledged yet, fingers crossed.

Tucking into the Sunflower hearts.

Had a nice surprise as well today as the eldest Grand Daughter and her hubby gave me a video call, she is a school teacher but is in lock down because of asthma, but still working from home.

Was thinking of going to Reddish Vale tomorrow, BUT is it worth it with people not doing social distancing, another few days would be prudent perhaps, specially with Bank Holiday weekend coming up!.
Perhaps a quick trip early round the Debdale reservoirs to see if there are any new arrivals?.
