Tuesday 6.6.23. Portland Basin Museum and Café

Tuesday I went to Debdale ressers first to see how the baby Great Crested Grebes were doing and they are all swimming on their own now!.

 Plenty of baby coots too.

Then it was off to Portland Basin Café or I should say the Café within the museum, which is the Bridge View Café.

Outside in the boat yard, plenty of oldie world machinery.

This boat is an articulated one with the engine in the small section.

They do trips on it at weekends I was told.

Those flats look nice overlooking the canal.

One that Fred Dibnah missed.

Looking towards Ashton centre.

Birds out of junk.

How many parts can you recognize

Wheelchair access on this one

Family holiday .

Threading the needle though the arch way.

Then it was indoors for dinner, lovely fresh grub and plenty of it.
Soup of the day and roast ham sandwich combo.
Menu in an earlier post.

Today I found out there is a different menu at weekends with full English breakfasts must try that!

Nice and clean, staff are very nice and friendly.

Main area, but also outdoor seating for the sunny days.

Floral table decorations too.

Plenty of clean toilets on all floors.

Good collection of teapots.

Bloated must have a sit down, then more investigating.

Then it was a mooch round the museum.

Plenty of interesting items here.

Did quite a lot of investigation on canal boats when I built two models over the years, this is the area that a full family would have lived in at the back of the boat and the children often slept on the load in the cargo area, must have been tough in those days.

Not quite as old as these.

Surprising the amount of trades that were in the surrounding  area in the past.

I will continue the pictures from round the museum in another post later.

So all in all a very pleasant visit and will defiantly be revisiting.

..............................................................

Did you hear about the newbie that went ice fishing?.

he caught 50 lbs of ice and his wife drowned trying to cook it.

There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore looking like an idiot.
